Six Big Benefits Of Mini Split Heating And Cooling At Home

Installing a ductless system is one of the best ways to make your home a more comfortable place, and rid yourself of window AC units and space heaters. Ductless mini splits can be used to heat and cool, which is something you can’t say for window units or space heaters either.

We love ductless mini splits at Synergy3, and wanted to tell you a little more about the benefits of them vs some other heating and cooling solutions.
In this article, we’ll cover:

  • Six Great Reasons To Get A Mini Split At Home
  • Ductless Mini Splits In Older Homes
  • Ductless Mini Splits In Split Levels And Ranches

Six Great Reasons To Get A Mini Split At Home

  1. Superior Comfort
  2. Customization
  3. Whisper-Quiet Operation
  4. Smaller Footprint
  5. Easy Maintenance
  6. Energy-Efficient

Superior Comfort

Ductless mini splits provide better comfort than almost any other HVAC system on the market. Starting with basics like window units and space heaters, ductless systems do a far better job. Other units tend to focus on the space right in front of them, oftentimes not affecting the remaining temperature of the room. This can lead to solo hot or cool spots.

A traditional system like a furnace, or a central AC unit, will do a better job than the window AC or space heater, but it still struggles at times to hit every space in the home properly. Ductless systems do a better job of keeping the temperature you set your thermostat to. Every space in your home should be at the proper temperature, and shouldn’t suffer just because a ventilation system isn’t properly distributing the air.

Easy Customization/Zoning

Ductless systems allow you to treat each zone independently, instead of having the whole house try to be the same temperature. This helps provide better cooling and heating, while also saving energy.

One of the big arguments in lots of houses is what the thermostat is set to. Imagine you can have different rooms in your house at different temperatures. Not only does this allow you to stop wasting energy cooling or heating rooms you aren’t using, but it also allows different people to have the temperature they prefer in their space.

Whisper-Quiet Operation

This is a big one for us. A noisy window AC unit, or a furnace making a big whooshing sound when it heats back up can be annoying. Ductless mini splits maintain a VERY quiet noise level. One of the worst parts about the summer is turning on the AC, then having to turn up the TV, and before you know it everything seems like it’s louder than it should be.

This is one of the main reasons we are starting to see these in more offices, restaurants, and other businesses. They are able to run with no distraction at all.

Smaller Footprint

One of the best parts about ductless systems is that they are in fact, ductless. This means there is a lot less tearing into a home to try and make sure the air is distributed evenly, with no leaks or problems. A ductless system requires a few holes to be drilled, but not the major overhaul installing other systems can require.

The outdoor unit is sleek and tucked up against a wall of your home nicely. These outdoor units also work extremely quietly.

Not only will a ductless system require less work getting your home prepared for it, but it also uses less energy, reducing your carbon footprint.

Easy Maintenance

Ductless systems are very easy to maintain once they are installed. There are filters inside the system you can take out, wash yourself, and place back in very easily. You should take out your filters and clean them once a month, and this process usually takes no more than 5 minutes.

Every few years you may require a deep cleaning, where your HVAC company comes in, takes apart your unit, and cleans it with a specially designed solution and hose system.

For the most part though, you can keep your system fresh and clean with quick and easy filter cleanings!

Energy-Efficient

Energy efficiency is one of the biggest, most important benefits of a ductless mini split system. Saving energy helps you save money, and reduces your carbon footprint. Ductless systems are built with energy efficiency in mind, using less energy than most traditional systems, and temporary solutions. When we install a ductless system for a customer, one of the things we love to hear about is the money they start saving when the energy bills come in.

Not only are ductless units very efficient, but they also use zoned heating and cooling like we mentioned before. Instead of having to keep the whole home treated at the same temperature, you can choose to keep different zones at different temperatures. There are certain rooms in your home you won’t use all day, and some homes even have rooms that aren’t used for days or weeks at a time. Instead of wasting money treating these rooms, you can leave the zones at a different temperature, and reduce your energy use significantly.

Ductless Mini Splits In Older Homes

The problem with installing a central heating or cooling system into an older home could be the infrastructure. There may not be enough space to install ductwork, and even if there is, it could be very detrimental to the house to put that much wear and tear on it.

An older home may also simply need a supplement to a current system. Maybe there is a current heating or AC system that still works, but needs a little help.

In either case, ductless is a perfect solution. These systems aren’t as invasive as a traditional system, like we mentioned above. Ductless mini splits can be installed into the proper places in an older home that will keep it comfortable. Older homes tend to be very different, and the flexibility of ductless mini splits allow you to map out a proper system for each home.

Ductless Mini Splits In Split Levels And Ranches

Split level homes and ranches are some of the best houses to install a ductless mini split in. Running ductwork in these styles of homes can be tricky, and cost a bit of money.

A ductless mini split system can keep these types of homes easily comfortable, while likely costing less to run as well. Because of the flexibility of how these systems are designed, it makes it very easy to customize the system to each home.
